The Bridges Scholar Program supports community college students pursuing STEM majors. The main goal of the two-year program is to prepare these students for transfers to a four-year university where they will successfully complete their bachelor's degree. Bridges Scholars are also introduced to biomedical science research at CSUSM to encourage interest in future research careers. The biomedical sciences covered include Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biophysics, Biomathematics, among others, focusing on understanding human health and disease.
The program is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is sponsored by the Center for Training, Research, and Educational Excellence (CTREE) at CSU San Marcos.
The program features:
- Financial support of $13,900 per academic year
- Faculty mentoring and advising
- Academic support, educational and professional development workshops
- Research Opportunities-Lab shadowing, independent research, conference attendance
- A supportive community of scholars
